Dr. Anita Haque’s Diet Friendly Lemonade
Several of my weight loss patients ask me what they
drink or do in the summer time that will not
blow their diet while their friends enjoy
a summer beverage. So I had a couple of minutes
so I wanted to share my tasty drink (lemonade)
-that helps you lose weight,
-keeps you hydrated
-keeps you full, and is
-healthy for you.
YOU definitely don’t get many drinks like
that in the grocery store, but this one only
requires a couple of ingredients, is sweetened
by Stevia, and it’s something you can drink
everyday.

Arm Numbness Causes Discussed in Livermore Chiropractors Office
Do you have numbness in your arms?
The sensation often referred to as numbness or “pins and needles” is most commonly a nerve related sensation. A patient came into my office in Livermore this morning with this exact complaint. She explained that the numbness first began when she was working at a computer and so she thought it was carpal tunnel. As time progressed, she noticed the numbness when she was driving and then at night when she slept on her right side.
When she finally went to see her medical doctor, they gave her some pain medications to relieve the numbness but it didn’t seem to work very well as the duration of the numbness became constant with noticeable weakness in her arm.
This scenario of numbness is one I hear often. Actually, many times I find patients with numbness in their arms, hands or fingers are misdiagnosed as carpal tunnel syndrome. This can be easily done if no real examination or tests are performed to determine where the numbness is coming from. Carpal tunnel syndrome is caused when one of the bones in the wrist is out of position causing pressure to the nerve that goes into the hand. Carpal tunnel syndrome can also be caused by a ligament or muscle inflammation. If the injury is not at the wrist, the elbow is the next region where the same nerve to wrist and hand follows. If the elbow is not affected the shoulder is also a very common area where a misdiagnosis can be made. Often times, even though the numbness may be in the hand or elbow region the injury or the pinching of the nerve can be in the shoulder where one of the muscles are inflamed or ligaments and tendons are mis-aligned causing pressure on the nerves that run down the arm to the hand. The origin of this same nerve traces back to the neck. Frequently, the sensation of numbness in the arm or hand is found with a pinched nerve or subluxation in the cervical region.
When a patient comes in complaining of numbness to my office, the following is completed in every case:
- A thorough history of the patient’s complains in order to establish the initial injury which will aid to the cause and source of the numbness
- A complete neurologic, orthopedic, postural examination that includes muscular tests to rule out the possibility of a true carpal tunnel syndrome, elbow or shoulder impingement syndrome
- Radiographs (X-rays) of the cervical spine (neck) and other areas of the spine if necessary
- Full analysis of exam findings and x-rays
- Report of findings to the patient explaining their injury, the cause, treatment options and any associated costs or insurance information.

Children and Chiropractic
My sister and her two boys along with my parents
are visiting me from Vancouver, Canada.
I am not used to be around a 7 and a 9 year old
but it is a load of fun (especially when you
arent the parent)!
The one thing I noticed more than anything else is
how smart and absorbent kids are at that age.
I mean, they pick up on everything and seem to
RETAIN everything.
I had given them my childrens book that I just
wrote and about kids wearing a good backpack to
protect their spines and prevent injuries and they
seemed to understand the concept faster than their mom
(my sister).
Actually, because I named the two boys in the book
after them (Adam and Omar), they felt like stars
and decided to act out the book in a little skit
for us last night.
It could not be more hysterical but I was wowed
because of how well they understood (after I read
them the book only once) that the spine contains
nerves and that nerves send the signals from the
brain to all the body parts and if the spine was
injured then their nerves wouldnt work right.
How complicated a concept for most adults to
understand that a child can get in a few seconds!
Anyway…
After they did their little skit they started
asking me to write another book about good food!
My nephew Adam had suggested that it be about Omar
eating chocolate and getting sick to his stomach
and him eating fruits and getting healthy!
How well do your kids and loved ones understand
the simple concepts of true health?
Here’s what I’ve realized.
Being around my family and little minds this weekend
inspires me to educate our youth on good health even
more than before.
I know that if we teach the young people the right
principals now, maybe, just maybe, we will see a
future decline on obesity, diabetes and heart disease.
When you teach them the right way from the beginning, it
tends to follow them throughout their future life.
Its true what they say.
You can learn so much from children.
I know I have these past few days.
Warmest Regards,
Dr. Anita Haque

Chiropractic treatment for plantar fasciitis in Livermore
Foot pain solved at Haque Chiropractic
Plantar fasciitis is a diagnosis often given to patients who have pain in their feet and a thickening of the tendons on the bottom of their feet. It is a general diagnosis but the treatment protocol from M.D.s are to rest, ice, take anti-inflammatory drugs, possibly cortisone injections and physical therapy. Sometimes this protocol will work for a period of time but most often, I see patients who have had this condition for years without significant improvement. At the end of it, their condition is at a cost to their quality of life. Many don’t run any more, exercise or walk for long periods because of their condition that they become accustomed to.
The good news: other treatment options do exist that are in many cases MORE EFFECTIVE! And yes, without drugs and without surgery! The feet are indubitably the foundation to our bodies. The 26 bones that make up each foot can mis-align, pull on tendons and ligaments and cause irritation and pain. An effective treatment option in my office with my patients is the following:
When a patient comes in complaining of pain in their feet, ankles, knees hips and/or lower back pain, we examine the arches of their feet. There are three arches that make up the feet and when they are all present that tells us that the foot is moving properly allowing the joints above (ankle, knees hips, etc.) to also move correctly. When an arch is lost or too pronounced, the biomechanics of the body will shift as the ligaments, muscles and tendons will move differently and since everything all connects together it will cause improper motion of joints and things can/will misalign and cause pain and irritation.
Once the actual shift of the bone, loss of arch or exact cause of the pain is determined after an evaluation, we will focus on re-aligning the bones of the foot correctly, support the feet with custom-made orthotics (if necessary) reset the tendons and work out the scar tissue that has developed in the ligaments that has in some cases caused significant loss of motion of the foot and extreme pain. The results are that the patient will regain proper movement of their feet and joints above and resume a happy motion-filled life again!

Chiropractic for Jaw Pain and Headaches
Over the years in my office in Livermore, I have seen hundreds of patients with the diagnosis of “TMJ” who thought they had to live with the clicking and discomfort in their jaw. What they didn’t know until we probed further, was that often times their headaches were linked to the TMJ and the cause of it.
Many people don’t know that there is a solution to resolve both jaw pain and headaches. Chiropractic adjustments have helped hundreds in my office safely and quickly.
How do you know if you have a problem with either? Here is what to look for:
- It’s hard to open your jaw all the way without a “pop” or “click” noise
- You experience dull or achy pain around the temporal areas of your head
- When you put your hands on your jaw and open your mouth it doesn’t feel straight
If you have noticed one of the above then it might be a good idea to get checked by a chiropractor to see if you can get relief and correct the problem.
Don’t delay if you are suffering with this as it only gets harder to take care of. Check out our coupon online for your first visit or ask me the next time you visit the office to check your jaw!
How to Get Rid of Mid Back Stiffness
Stiffness in between the shoulder blades is so common because of our postural habits in America. I mean, who doesn’t spend time sitting in front of a computer for length nowadays?
Yesterday, when I was taking care of a patient in my office in Livermore, I demonstrated to her 3 quick stretches to relieve mid back stiffness and prevent the hunch-forward posture that is all too attractive (haha).
Watch the video below to see how easy it is!
Livermore Chiropractor Demonstrates How to Increase Your Flexibility Quickly
I know we’ve all heard it….stretch more but I find that often my patients aren’t stretching because it hurts. It’s natural to feel discomfort a little when you have been wound up for some time. That is why I wanted to share with you how to stretch and increase your flexibility with more ease which will help you with back stiffness, fatigue and blood flow.
Watch the video to see how you can increase your flexibility by practicing the “Breath and stretch” technique. It’s quite simple: You start by breathing in, begin your stretch position and then exhale while you push your stretch a little more. As you continue it will help your muscle and ligament lengthen and you will become more flexible.
Watch the video now to see how to do this yourself and start practicing!
Enjoy!
Back Pain Relief with Yoga
Several patients ask me about doing yoga for back pain relief. I believe that yoga is great exercise for the entire body, mind and spirit. Don and I practice yoga daily so we wanted to share with you 3 quick and easy yoga stretches you can do even if you are a ‘rookie’ that helps to relief back pain stiffness.
Our recommendation is to practice these stretches daily first thing in the morning and if you miss it in the morning practice before bed for a more restful sleep. Watch the video to learn how to practice these quick moves!

Should You Get The Flu Vaccine?
Today when I was adjusting a patient of mine for her neck pain, she was telling me about her recent experience at her medical doctor’s office. She took her son in to get checked and was asked if they were vaccinated for the flu vaccine yet. When she told them they haven’t, she explained she was given an evil eye and told that the ‘flu kills’! I asked her whether she then decided to get the vaccine and she explained that she doesn’t believe that a healthy child or adult needs a vaccine. I find that everyone is talking about the flu with all the sickness that goes around right after the holidays.
There’s so much false information out there and a lot of it is controversial. If you notice, there are signs for the “FREE FLU Vaccine Given Here” posters.
I did some research to help bring you the facts so you can decide whether you need the vaccine or not.
Here’s what I found:
- The last flu epidemic was in 1918
- The flu vaccine like all other viruses mutates which makes it difficult to predict.
- Scientist come together every February and guess what strains they think are coming around and pick the top three they think would be the strains of flu and make the vaccine.
- Sometimes they don’t guess the right virus like in 2003-2004, the CDC admitted that it completely missed the virulent Fujian flu strain that hit hard that winter.
- The most common side effects to getting the flu are fever, rash, headaches, hives, or, very rarely, seizures. The most common side effect is swelling at the injection site on your arm.
- Except for about 8 million doses, the flu vaccine contains a preservative, thimerosal, that is 49 percent mercury, a known neurotoxin. This neurotoxin is dangerous for children especially under the age of 6
- Most people are likely to catch the cold since there are over 200 viruses and many of mistakenly think it’s the flu vaccine.
So do you need to get the flu vaccine?
I can’t make that decision for you but I can tell you what things DO NATURALLY increase your immunity:
1. Plenty of rest
2. Plenty of water-even better if it’s alkaline because viruses can’t thrive in an alkaline water
3. Exercise
4. Stress management
5. Healthy diet
6. Having healthy nerves in your spine that connect your brain to the immune system.
Remember, your health is in your own hands and you can be as healthy as you would like to be! For more information on getting a healthy nervous system, call our office for a FREE consultation.
