Exercises for Back Pain

Back pain stems from a variety of causes. Chiropractic care works to identify the root cause of your pain and effectively treat it. We often incorporate various exercises into a patient's routine plan that they can use to build strength and correct muscle imbalances. Our chiropractor at Haque Wellness Center in Livermore can recommend personalized exercises you can do to alleviate your back pain and prevent it from reoccurring. Here are some of the many exercises we may recommend for back pain.

.

Bridges

Bridges develop the gluteus maximus, the largest muscle in the bottom. This muscle is important because it provides support for the lower back. This exercise is performed by lying on the ground with the knees bent and feet flat on the floor. Press your feet to the floor and raise your bottom so that your hips are in line with your shoulders and knees.

Knee-to-Chest Stretch

This stretch lengthens the lower back, relieving tension and pain in your back. Lie on your back on the floor and bend your knees with your feet flat on the floor. Use your hands to pull one knee to the chest and hold it there. Keep your back to the floor and tighten your abs. Repeat on the opposite side.

Pelvic Tilt

If you want to release tight back muscles and improve your flexibility, lie on the floor with your knees bent and feet on the floor. Keep your arms at your sides and arch your lower back just slightly. You should feel your stomach pushing out. Hold it there and take a rest. Pull your belly to the floor and hold it there for another breath. Repeat the process.

Lying Leg Lifts

The hip abductors can support your back. To work your hip abductors and build strength for your lower back and pelvis, lie on your side with your lower leg bent just slightly. Keep your abdominals engaged as you raise and lower the top leg.

Bird Dog

Get on your hands and knees. Tighten your stomach and lift one leg, holding it even. Raise the opposite arm straight in front of you so that it is in line with the leg. Drop both after a brief hold and then lift the opposite arm and leg. Pay attention to your core and back as you do this.
